The Congressional Healthcare Policy Fellow Program, a collaborative effort of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, has been preparing pharmacists for public service for more than a decade.

The program grew out of founding director Gary Matzke’s experience as a health policy fellow in a program for mid-career faculty by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. As a health policy fellow for the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Dr. Matzke realized there was a need for early-career pharmacists to have the same opportunity as well.
