Daniel Nam

2013-14 Fellow

Daniel Nam worked as a pharmacist in Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York until 2013. Prior to that, in 2008, he started a community pharmacy in a culturally diverse neighborhood. It was while operating the pharmacy that he realized his passion for policy development, specifically concerning minority health care. As a result, he enrolled in law school, where he advocated for health care rights for seniors and indigent clients (New York Legal Assistance Group), externed at the NYS Attorney's General Office (Medicaid Fraud Unit, Hauppauge, NY), interned with the government affairs division in the National Community Pharmacists Association, and campaigned for a congressional race. Nam graduated law school in 2013 and started his Congressional Healthcare Policy Fellowship a short time later.

During the yearlong Congressional Healthcare Policy Fellowship, he worked in the personal office of Sen. Michael F. Bennet. There, he staffed on legislative and policy issues, which heavily included staffing health care issues from the U.S. Senate H.E.L.P. and Finance Committees. He also worked heavily with Colorado state constituents on various health care and child welfare issues. During the fellowship, Nam was able to gain valuable insight and experience regarding politics, policymaking and effective legislating.

After the fellowship, he joined the Defense and Intelligence Group of the government consulting firm, Booz Allen Hamilton. There, he worked on DoD health care contracts, including the MHS 90 Day Follow On and Operation Live Well contracts. As part of the Operation Live Well contract, he gained consulting and project management skills by leading the Analytics and the Congressional Report teams. He then served as the associate principal for Pharmacy Policy at Avalere Health and later served as Vice President of Policy at the Global Liver Institute.
