John McGlew
Associate Director for Government Affairs, ACCP
Bio
John K. McGlew was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, and attended the Edinburgh Academy before completing a Master of Arts (honors) degree at the University of Aberdeen (Scotland) in political science and business management. His final dissertation was a comparative study of U.K. and U.S. voting behavior.
After graduating, McGlew moved to Hartford, Connecticut, to intern in the state senate. This led to an opportunity to work for Representative Jim Maloney (D) on his targeted congressional election campaign in 2000.
After the 2000 election, which saw Representative Maloney return to Congress, McGlew moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked for the American Chiropractic Association Political Action Committee, the Health Insurance Association of America, America’s Health Insurance Plans and the National Home Infusion Association.
McGlew joined the American College of Clinical Pharmacy in October 2006 and currently works to develop political participation and advocacy among ACCP members, as well as leading the college’s legislative efforts. In addition to lobbying on Capitol Hill, McGlew prepares comments and testimony on regulatory issues, participates in a number of pharmacy and interprofessional advocacy coalitions, provides training for ACCP members to become better advocates, supports the ACCP/ASHP/VCU Congressional Healthcare Policy Fellow Program and manages the ACCP Political Action Committee (PAC).
